Before you begin
Open Inbox and select a conversation. Shortcuts work best when your cursor is not inside a text field.
Common shortcuts
- J or Down — move to the next conversation
- K or Up — move to the previous conversation
- R — reply when a conversation is selected
- E — archive when available
- Escape — close composer or return focus to the thread list
What you should see
The selected conversation should change as you move, and reply/archive actions should apply to the currently selected thread.
Common issues
- Shortcut types into the message body — click outside the composer first
- Shortcut does nothing — the browser or an extension may be capturing the key
- Archive unavailable — your role or mailbox state may not allow that action
