How opt-outs work for SMS, cadences, and manual outreach.

STOP replies

When a lead texts STOP (or carrier equivalent), the number is opted out. Automated SMS cadence steps skip with SMS_OPT_OUT.

Do not call / do not contact

  • DO_NOT_CONTACT blocks cross-channel automation
  • DO_NOT_EMAIL blocks email cadence steps separately
  • Manual outreach may still be allowed per your compliance policy — check lead flags before calling

What to do after opt-out

  • Remove lead from active SMS cadences
  • Do not add back without documented consent
  • Review thread in Messages for the STOP confirmation
